The Holy Trinity – 1 Peter 1:2

…according to the foreknowledge of God the Father and set apart by the Spirit for obedience and for sprinkling with the blood of Jesus Christ.

May grace and peace be multiplied to you.

This verse speaks clearly of the Trinity. Simply because the specific word ‘Trinity’ is never used in Scripture does not mean that this idea cannot exist. This verse, as well as at least two others, illustrate that God is three persons in one essence eternally existing in a relationship of love. (Ephesians 1:3-18 also illustrates this basic nature of God as well as 2 Cor 13:14.). The Trinitarian nature of God is a classic, critical, unique Christian doctrine. It provides the basis for our deep desire to be in relationship with others and explains why we deeply long to love and be loved.

Three in Person. One in Essence.

Since God has always been in a loving relationship and has created us in His image, we long for loving relationships and find hope and fulfillment in them. We were created for relationship. We were created for love. To my knowledge, no other faith system provides a fundamental basis for this universal desire within us. Thanks be to the God of the Holy Scriptures for creating us in His image for relationship with Him.
