It Takes One not to Know One – Psalm 14:1

The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.”

This is an illogical, foolish claim since to deny an omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent Being would require one to be that Being.

In order to know that such a Person did not exist, one would have to have all of the characteristics of that Person. It literally ‘takes One not to know One’.

Such a ‘non-claim’ is truly foolish as the Biblical author states. We are finite, limited in knowledge and stuck in the present. How would we be able to deny the existence of One who is none of these? We can’t. It is stupid to claim that we can and leads to nothing but trouble. Basic philosophy teaches us that you cannot absolutely prove an absolute negative.

Conversely, the wise man seeks God and knows in his heart that “…our God is in the heavens; He does whatever He pleases.” Psalm 115:3. He knows us intimately, even better than we know ourselves, and so we seek Him. His mercies are new every morning.

That, my friends, is good news!
