God’s Just Nature – Isaiah 13:11

Thus I will punish the world for its evil
And the wicked for their iniquity;
I will also put an end to the arrogance of the proud
And abase the haughtiness of the ruthless.

God has great wrath for the arrogant, prideful evil sinner. He is jealous for His creation and will not allow the prideful snit to continue to destroy. God will intercede in great wrath. He loves the innocent. He protects the righteous. He is not silent. He will act.

Many have criticized this wrath of God as if it were some aberration of His nature. We’ve divided God into Testaments and chosen to ignore the old as if somehow God’s actions and words, even His very nature, can be relegated to a time in history or a misinterpretation. Father God Himself stated that He does not change. Jesus, who has existed eternally, is described as the One who is the same yesterday, today and forever. God is beyond testaments. He is beyond time. He does not change.

Do we truly want a God who is not angry with injustice and sin? Can we live with a Father who does not punish the wicked? Is our sense of injustice looking for a Judge who will simply ignore the rapists, murderers, evil dictators and sex traffickers of children? Does a loving God truly ignore such behavior? Is He truly loving if He ignores such? Of course not.

We rant against even the perception of injustice in our world today. There is a deep sense of justice within each of us. Did it simply arise from the primordial slime? No. It was breathed into us. It speaks of the image of God upon us. We stand up for the persecuted and seek to destroy the arrogant who relentlessly push their evil agenda upon the innocent. We naturally reject certain types of heinous evil. It flows out of us, unless, of course, we are one of those who have justified it to the point of desensitization.

This wrathful God is acting on behalf of all who are afflicted by sin. All sin. He has no desire to see any of His created perish. He takes no pleasure in the death of anyone – not even the wicked. However, He will not stand idly by like so many of us today and just watch for all eternity as the arrogant, prideful, evil person destroys others for their own pleasure and sake. He will speak. He will act. He is compelled to by His love.

Have mercy on our arrogant hearts Father God, mine included.

‘He is jealous for me.
He loves like a hurricane, I am a tree
Bending beneath the weight of His grace and mercy….How He loves us.’ John Mark McMillan
