For NeeNee and Lamb
(I awoke one morning to find that our daughter, who was 5 years old at the time, had joined us in bed during the night. Her presence instantly inspired this poem.)
I saw an angel this morning!
I know it must have been;
Tender skin, a glowing face,
And a perfectly “u” shaped chin.
I touched an angel this morning;
So soft, so smooth, so still.
She slept in heavenly soundness,
Is this our same little “pill”?
I kissed an angel this morning.
I couldn’t stay away!
These moments must be seized, you know.
They don’t come every day!
It was an Angel this morning,
Like no other on the earth.
Surpassed in beauty only,
By the one who gave her birth.
