Now go; I’m sending you out like lambs among wolves.
It should be no wonder that the walk of faith is challenging. Jesus Himself sends us as lambs into a world of savage wolves. What defense does a lamb have against a wolf? What would ever stop a wolf from devouring a lamb? Why are we surprised when the world scorns believers? The reason Christianity is so often despised and reviled is because Christians are lambs surrounded by wolves. Jesus never minced words. He made the cost clear. To follow Him is to walk at the risk of being devoured. The blessing of obedience is juxtaposed against the risk of suffering and humiliation.
The truth is, however, that following the call of Christ is our only Hope and that the One who sends is the One who saves. He will deliver us out of this world of wolves eternally. The promise is sure. He is the Good Shepherd. No one can snatch us from His hand – not even a world of blood thirsty wolves. Thanks be to God!
