But when he was strong his heart was lifted up, to his destruction, for he transgressed against the Lord his God by entering the temple of the Lord to burn incense on the altar of incense.
The pride of success is the death knell for so many men. We have such a strong tendency to rely on ourselves whenever we begin to think that we have things in order and have a high level of what appears to be control. God exalts us and then we claim the victory in ourselves as exhibited by self serving, prideful actions. It is terrifying. To walk so long with Father God by His blessing and then to claim success by our own power must be an easy thing. The Scripture displays it over and over. We see it over and over in our day. Pride lies latent until we sense personal success.
Father God, deliver me from such a mindset. Keep me humble before You. Protect me from selfish pride and self serving actions that deny Your blessing and provision. I am Yours and want to be more so. Help my unbelief and stubborn pride. Help me to want to want You more.
