“Why do you call Me good?” Jesus asked him. “No one is good but One — God.
Is Jesus asking, in effect, “Do you really believe that I Am what I have claimed? God? If so, then give up whatever hinders you from following Me.” Only God is good and the fact that this young man has referred to Jesus as good gives Jesus an opening to ask a very important question.
Or maybe He is asking, “What is your motive behind calling Me good? Is it faith or flattery? Are you sincerely seeking salvation or simply seeking your own glory?”
Jesus’ questions always plumb to the deepest parts of our being. He cuts us apart with His questions and then puts us back together with His answer. He is the Answer.
