“You say, ‘God stores away a man’s iniquity for his sons.’
Let God repay him so that he may know it.
Yet another example of the wrongness of Job’s friends. God makes it clearly known that he does not punish the sons for the sins of their dad. He does not work that way. This was man’s interpretation and it is wrong. It must have been one of those ideas that people passed around like an old wives tale. I’m speculating, obviously, but the important thing to know is that this is not the way God operates. Job’s friends simply do not appear to know God or the way God operates. Father God holds each person accountable for their own sins. Each man and woman will stand before God alone to pay the price for their sin, unless, of course, they are in Christ Jesus. Lord Jesus has fulfilled the perfect Justice of God with the perfect Love of God and we are the beneficiaries.
The person who sins will die. The son will not bear the punishment for the father’s iniquity, nor will the father bear the punishment for the son’s iniquity; the righteousness of the righteous will be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked will be upon himself.
