Because God has loosened my bowstring and oppressed me, they have cast off restraint in my presence.
It seems Job’s old cohorts have decided that since he has endured so much trouble he has lost his righteousness and has become a sinner. Or maybe that he has done something that has brought him under God’s curse. In fact, the exact opposite is true! He walked so faithfully in God’s presence that he drew the attention of the enemy. God had so much faith in Job that he allowed him to suffer in order to prove his faithfulness to the enemy of our souls.
We must never, ever conclude that trouble in a person’s life is necessarily because of their sin. It might actually be just the opposite. Never judge a man solely by the experiences of his life. Troubling life circumstances are not necessarily tied to a lack of faithfulness. The story of Job’s life clearly illustrates this.
