An oracle within my heart
concerning the transgression of the wicked person:
There is no dread of God before his eyes,
for in his own eyes he flatters himself too much
to discover and hate his sin.
Self deception is the most dangerous type of deception. It blinds an individual to his own most blatant sin. It is the willing decision of a person to justify his own evil actions and ignore the implications of those actions for his life. Flattery is but the vehicle of this deception. When evil is given a foothold and one no longer fears God but exalts himself with flattery, the implications are severe. Sin takes root. Destruction is inevitable.
Deliver us from our own sinful selves, Lord. You are our only Hope.
