Evil Relationships – Judges 16:19

She made him sleep on her knees, and called for a man and had him shave off the seven locks of his hair. Then she began to afflict him, and his strength left him.

This is the woman he loves? She has deceitfully irritated him with her words until he has confessed his deepest secret to his mortal enemy and then SHE begins to afflict him. Begins to afflict him? Seriously?  I believe it is safe to say that she was his affliction from the day he met her.

This is the picture of pure evil. It’s no wonder the name Delilah is held in deep irreverence even in our culture today. No one wants such a woman, such a person, anywhere near them. Even the memory of this piece of the devil’s work is more than most can bear. Thus, you don’t see many ladies in our day named Delilah. Thank goodness!

Her motivation is pure greed. Sadly, Samson’s physical passion and undisciplined affection is the path to her fulfillment and his demise.

There must be a special place in torment for such folks.

The lessons are obvious:

– Build romantic relationships carefully.

– Give your passions and affections to God so that He can manage them via His Holy Spirit within you.

– Never trust a person who uses that age old deception, ‘But I thought you said you loved me?’ It is simply a method to manipulate for selfish motives.

In situations such as this, take your lead from Joseph, not Samson. Run!

Run Forest run!
