Prophesying to the Prophets – Micah 3:5-8

Micah 3:5-8

This is what the Lord says concerning the prophets who lead my people astray, who proclaim peace when they have food to sink their teeth into but declare war against the one who puts nothing in their mouths.

Therefore, it will be night for you —without visions;

it will grow dark for you — without divination.

The sun will set on these prophets, and the daylight will turn black over them. Then the seers will be ashamed and the diviners disappointed. They will all cover their mouths because there will be no answer from God.

As for me, however, I am filled with power
by the Spirit of the Lord,
with justice and courage,
to proclaim to Jacob his rebellion
and to Israel his sin.

The true prophet of God is a prophet even to the prophets. He speaks God’s truth not only to God’s people, His sheep, but also to God’s prophets. The prophet of God is God’s man and often must address those who are claiming to be God’s prophets but who are speaking lies for a fee.

There will always be those who are claiming to be God’s voice who speak peace and prosperity upon the listeners as long as the money is flowing. They are among us today. They water down the Scriptures and interpret the ‘truth’ in light of what the community by whom they are paid is seeking. They speak what the people who are financing them want to hear. Often, it takes many years of higher education to reach this level of interpretation. They are educated in their task of tickling ears. Their word from God is smooth and good for all who are paying their dues.

Into the midst of these, the true prophet of God speaks with courage and unbridled truth. He speaks strongly to these charlatans. He is God’s voice speaking God’s word truthfully and faithfully, especially to these lying mouths who are lining their pockets. He may suffer from the Elijah Syndrome, feeling alone and abandoned by his colleagues and parishioners; yet, he walks with God and knows His heart and thus speaks His Word. He will never be forsaken. He stands on the Word Of God.

God’s man is not motivated by money nor is he afraid of those in ministry who are. He is motivated by God’s Spirit and thus speaks God’s word to all who will listen and conform. He is a prophet to the prophets in a manner like Jesus Who was THE Prophet to all prophets. He knows the Father’s Word and speaks it as such to all who will listen. Thanks be to God for these prophets.
