Then Jacob gave Esau bread and lentil stew; and he ate and drank, and rose and went on his way. Thus Esau despised his birthright.
How often do the pressing impulses and perceived needs of our flesh lead us to despise our spiritual birthright in Jesus? The battle for control of our will rages daily. Self vs. birthright. Jesus has secured glory for us as believers; yet, the temptations of everyday life rarely bring out the glory in us. If only we could get our minds around the magnitude of the birthright we have through Lord Jesus. The great significant truths must always be kept foremost in our minds, especially when the impulses of the flesh raise their ugly heads. We tend to despise the great promises of God when our flesh presses.
Christ has covered us with His righteousness.
He has filled us with His Spirit.
He will reveal us in glory.
He has secured for us a birthright – Heaven.
May we never despise it for the fleeting pleasures of the flesh.
