So he went right up to Jesus and said, “Greetings, Rabbi!” and kissed Him.
Right up until the very last minute Judas the liar is deceiving. The true sign of his friendship with Christ becomes the final act of betrayal. What a miserable being he was, Judas. As the Psalmist prophesied, ” Even my closest friend will betray me.” It is the kiss of death delivered to the Son of God by His so called close friend, Judas.
The thieving, deceiving treasurer.
The selfish, lying scoundrel.
Most every sin that destroys a man is represented in this cowardly action. John records that satan entered into Judas and through this act we see our enemy’s true nature. He’s a coward, a cheat, a thief and the ultimate Deceiver – all done with a stupid smile on his face and a kiss of friendship on his lips.
Father, forgive me of these very same sins that lurk in my heart and express themselves in my life. Have mercy on the ‘Judas’ in me that seeks to destroy my relationship with you and thwart the eternal promise you have granted me by your grace.
Lead me not into temptation but deliver me from evil.
