Holy Father – John 17:11

And I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep them in your name, which you have given me, that they may be one, even as we are one.

How significant that God the Son made manifest in the flesh, Jesus Christ, refers to God the Father as Holy Father. There is deep respect shown in this title. Jesus Himself refers to His Dad, Abba, as Holy Father. It doesn’t lessen or diminish the fact that ‘He and the the Father are One’, it simply illustrates the deep respect, reverence and love that Jesus the Son had for God the Father. Christ did on occasion refer to God as Daddy; however, on this occasion, He refers to Him as Holy Father. There is a good tension and balance between the idea of God our Holy Father and the idea of Father God our Daddy. He is both Father and Daddy and is worthy of our respect and love in this most intimate relationship. He truly is a good, good Father.

The application is clear: every good and godly relationship requires both love and respect. The relationships in which we are given the blessing of participating are holy and should be treated as such. Jesus clearly demonstrated this in all of His relationships not the least of which was His relationship with His Father. We are wise to take note.
