There is no fear of God before their eyes.
Isn’t this the heart of the problem? Isn’t this the original sin? The evil rebellious man is the one who chooses to be his own god. He will make his own decisions, walk in his own way. He puts himself on the throne of his life and the result is disastrous. With each of my visits to our local mission I see men and women who are suffering with the terrible consequences of a life that did not and does not fear God. Immorality is hard on a mind, body and soul. Sin hardens people. You can see it in their faces. You can sense it in their spirit. To close one’s eyes to God and refuse to fear Him is to face the destructive consequences of sin. The one who would be their own god will wear the outworking of that decision. Refusing to fear God leaves us in the fear of the effects of our sin. For the wages of sin truly are death and it is often a slow death that lasts a lifetime.
