The specific direction of God in my life has always been filled with such good mystery and the part that circumstances play always leaves me seeking and wondering. I have never been one of those who has heard God’s voice audibly nor have I ever pestered Him about it. I have also never been one of those who could confidently say, “This is specifically what God wants me to do and where He wants me to be”. I’m one of those people who thinks he senses a prompting about almost everything…and, honestly, I’m not always sure whether it is God, my feelings or MY will. With that said, I LOVE what F. W. Boreham says about circumstances in his book, “In Pastures Green”.
“In what direction do circumstances point? After all, circumstances do not marshal themselves. The events of each day–great and small–are divinely directed. And if they point steadily in a certain direction, their testimony must be heeded.” [page 15, para 4]
Such beauty in such a simple statement. Obviously, he makes it clear in the paragraphs that precede this one that there is more to discerning God’s specific will than just circumstances; yet, he puts it so simply and so clearly. Very cool!
Isaiah 30:20,21 “And though the Lord give you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, yet your Teacher will not hide himself anymore, but your eyes shall see your Teacher. And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it,’ when you turn to the right or to the left.”
