So Amos answered Amaziah, “I was not a prophet or the son of a prophet; rather, I was a herdsman, and I took care of sycamore figs. But the Lord took me from following the flock and said to me, ‘Go, prophesy to My people Israel.’”
This is a terrifying prospect for the ‘not formally educated in religion’ preacher of today. Would God choose a lay person, one who has had no formal, critical, Biblical training to speak to His people? Would God take one from his secular occupation and use that one to speak His truth? Doesn’t it take a scholar to impart the Word these days? Don’t we need someone who has a degree at a formal institution of higher religious learning to accurately relate what God really means? Can we truly trust an uneducated person with the Written Revelation?
God clearly entrusts His Word to the uneducated. The sharing of His truth requires no advanced religious training. When Father God chooses to speak through His creation the risk may appear great in the eyes of man; however, God is able to watch over His Word. It will not return to Him void. Every word of God proves true regardless of the human instrument He chooses to use.
