“This is an amazing thing,” the man told them. “You don’t know where He is from, yet He opened my eyes! We know that God doesn’t listen to sinners, but if anyone is God-fearing and does His will, He listens to him. Throughout history no one has ever heard of someone opening the eyes of a person born blind. If this man were not from God, He wouldn’t be able to do anything.”
“You were born entirely in sin,” they replied, “and are you trying to teach us?” Then they threw him out.
It is one of the key differences between Jesus and the religionists. The religionists throw out the one whom Jesus clearly invited in. They attempt to hurt the one that Jesus has openly healed. When their little religious system falls victim to living faith, they must resort to personal attacks against the faithful. They bring condemnation. Jesus brought salvation.
It is the same today. Those who legalistically focus on their own performance and power almost always overlook those who have neither, but need mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment. Healing trumps hateful, ritualistic legalism.
