Therefore it happened, that just as He proclaimed and they would not hear, so they called out and I would not listen,” says the Lord of hosts.
If men consistently refuse to listen, God refuses to waste His breath speaking to them. Silence from God as a result of our refusal to hear is an eerie, hopeless, deadly silence. Father God’s patience is long but it can ultimately be exhausted. He has spoken and continues to speak to those who will humbly listen. His Written Revelation is alive and active for those who will hear and be changed. It is a lifeless book of legendary stories to those who won’t. His Holy Spirit moves within those who will heed and submit, speaking and convicting them. This same Spirit is quenched by those whose ears are dull and whose hearts are hard. They are ever hearing; yet, never understanding.
Keep the eyes and ears of our hearts open, Lord Jesus. Keep our sinful hearts tender that we might continue to hear and heed the Word of God.
2 Chronicles 24:19
Nevertheless, He sent them prophets to bring them back to the Lord; they admonished them, but the people would not listen.
