Then Jesus told them, “Give back to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” And they were amazed at Him.
Surely the questioners should have asked, “And what belongs to God?” To which Jesus could have replied, “Whose Image is on you?” Our very being belongs to God.
As Caesar’s image was on the coin so God’s image is on us. Just as we render to ‘Caesar’ those things that have his image, so also we render to God those things that have His image. In Caesar’s case, it is a coin. In Father God’s case, it is our very selves. We render ourselves to the One who has placed His image upon us.
All we have and all we are is His.
