Passing Judgement – Mark 14:64

You have heard his blasphemy. What is your decision?” And they all condemned him as deserving death.

A statement is not blasphemy if it is true. The high priest makes no effort to validate the statement because he has no desire for the truth. He simply seeks a reason to murder Christ. In effect, the high priest condemns himself through his faulty assumption that there is no way Jesus could be the Messiah. As always, one’s condemnation of Christ is simply self-condemnation. To stand before perfection and pass judgement is simply to pass judgement upon oneself.
