Otherwise, He would have had to suffer many times since the foundation of the world. But now He has appeared one time, at the end of the ages, for the removal of sin by the sacrifice of Himself.
Christ’s sacrifice covers all from the beginning of time who have lived and have looked to Him in faith for forgiveness. This verse alludes to that very fact when it says, ‘since the foundation of the world’. If His sacrifice was relevant only for those who have lived ‘after the cross’ then why would the writer allude to the foundation of the world?
Jesus’ sacrifice covers all believers of all ages. It is accessible to every man and woman who has ever lived and submitted themselves to the Lord Jesus. The power of His life, death and resurrection truly transcend time. It is eternal.
God is outside of time and has provided redemption that transcends time for all of us who are temporarily trapped within time – all of those who are calling, have called or will call upon the Name of Jesus for their salvation. Yes, it is a mystery, but it only makes sense that the all knowing, all seeing, all powerful, ever present God would be shrouded in at least some mystery. He is so far beyond us we simply cannot understand. This isn’t bad news; however, it is the best news ever. God’s redemption is from eternity to eternity. Hallelujah!
