As Moses descended from Mount Sinai — with the two tablets of the testimony in his hands as he descended the mountain — he did not realize that the skin of his face shone as a result of his speaking with the Lord. When Aaron and all the Israelites saw Moses, the skin of his face shone! They were afraid to come near him.
The glory of God is contagious. I can’t think of a better word. It rubs off on those who find themselves in His presence. Maybe we can measure just how near we are to God by the amount of His glory that we are reflecting? That thought seems reasonable but I don’t know for sure. Maybe God intentionally shared His glory with Moses because Moses asked and this shining face was a part of the result. Maybe God put some of his glory on Moses’ old face simply because it was His plan and purpose. In any case, Moses’ face ‘shone with the radiance of the Father’ (Michael Card). O that our faces might also shine and our lives reflect the awesome glory of God.
Wendell,
Thanks for sharing those thoughts. I do believe that even today our faces will reflect God’s glory if we’ve been in His presence. My comment indicts me.
