Molten gods – Exodus 34:17

You shall make for yourself no molten gods.

Father God knows us so well. This is what we do, isn’t it? We make these little moldable gods. Lifeless gods that in the beginning are liquid and pourable before becoming pliable and moldable so that we can shape them into our own image. Then, before we know it, we find that they have hardened into idols that separate us from the Living God and trap us in ourselves. It is self deception personified. A molten god is truly no god at all. The true God knew this and thus prohibited the worship of any other god, in particular, the molten ones. These molten gods are simply little images of our worthless selves and lead straight to the destruction that is within our fallen, evil heart; i. e., hell. We become what we worship.

As the angel told John the Apostle after he bowed down to worship him…

Revelation 22:9
But he said to me, “Do not do that. I am a fellow servant of yours and of your brethren the prophets and of those who heed the words of this book. Worship God.”

Melt down the molten gods in your life and pour them down the sewer where they belong! I know my little gods as you know yours and it is amazing how much they look like us. Ugh. We have to quit worshiping these little images of ourselves we create so that we will be free to worship the one, true Image of God – Jesus Christ – who created us. It is for freedom that He has set us free. (Gal. 5:5)
