Speaking Openly – John 18:20-21

“I have spoken openly to the world,” Jesus answered him. “I have always taught in the synagogue and in the temple complex, where all the Jews congregate, and I haven’t spoken anything in secret. Why do you question Me? Question those who heard what I told them. Look, they know what I said.”

The irony here is that Jesus has spoken openly in the day; yet, these men take Him to ‘trial’ secretly in the night. Such is the work of evil. It thrives in darkness and secrecy. It isolates it’s victim using darkness and deception in order to destroy. The double-irony is that although they believe they have Lord Jesus on trial, it is they who are being tried. To stand before Lord Jesus is to have our soul laid bare. He is Truth and Light. In His presence darkness and deception are ultimately defeated

Hallelujah!
