I pray not only for these, but also for those who believe in Me through their message. May they all be one, as You, Father, are in Me and I am in You. May they also be one in Us, so that the world may believe You sent Me.
Christian unity is founded upon a common faith in Christ Jesus alone. It is our faith in Christ, our complete submission to Him, that unites us across all man made walls and demonstrates to the world that we are one in Christ Jesus. This oneness speaks loudly and clearly of the One who sent Jesus – God our Father. It is unity in Christ by faith expressed in brotherly love that serves as our sign to the world that God the Eternal Father sent Jesus among us to save us.
Jesus Himself prayed for those who would one day be believers in Him also. His prayer for them, even as He faced the cross, was for their unity. His deep desire was for those who would entrust themselves to Him and submit their lives to His Word to be together in mind and spirit. To love fellow believers and thus get along with those who are truly submitting their lives to Jesus is to be an answer to His prayer and a walking witness to those who are not following Christ.
