The Truth – 1 Timothy 2:5

For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus…

Why is it that we have determined that so-called ‘open-mindedness to the point of meaninglessness’ is the measure of what is good, right and intelligent? Why is it smarter to consider that all ideas are equal? If that idea is true – that all ideas are equal – then why should I accept it over the idea that not all ideas are equal? In this age of ‘tolerance to the point of ignorance’, we have rejected ‘true truth’ as defined by the late Francis Schaeffer. Our contemporary culture has decided that the only exclusive truth is the truth that there is no exclusive truth. Yet, truth by nature excludes non-truth. It is what makes truth, truth. We have lost true reason as a culture in our denial of the exclusive nature of truth.

We may disagree with the Apostle Paul’s claim to Timothy that there is only one God and only One Mediator, the man Jesus Christ; however, we may not rationally and reasonably say that it is not a valid truth claim. It is valid. Every faith system that has at least an element of truth claims exclusivity. It is the nature of what we believe. We choose to believe what most aligns with reality and truth. We choose to believe what appears to us to be true and good. Why else would a person rationally choose one faith system over another or a ‘non-faith system’ over any of them? (But, honestly, can one believe in a non-faith system? If one believes it, doesn’t that make it a faith system?) To choose on the basis of feeling alone rarely works out. Feelings are fickle and any thinking person will admit such.

My point is this, Jesus Christ Himself proclaimed that He is the One way to God. This is the nature of a truth claim. ‘I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father but by me.’ John 14:6. He does not force anyone to believe it, but based on His message and His life, it is a claim worth investigating. Many have made similar claims over the years, yet, these can be safely ignored when one considers their words, their lives and the apparent motive for their claim. Their lives and messages were simply not consistent with one who would claim to be the God of love and justice and truth. From my perspective, developed throughout at least 30 of my 54 years of life, the facts weigh heavily on the side of the truthfulness of Jesus’ claim. Based on what I have read, seen, heard and experienced, His claim is true. I am persuaded and I am banking everything I am and will be on Who He is – the One Mediator between God and man, the man, Jesus Christ. He is the Great I AM.

He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. 2 Corinthians 5:21

It is such good news!
