Those who trust in the LORD are like Mount Zion.
It cannot be shaken; it remains forever.
Jerusalem — the mountains surround her.
And the LORD surrounds His people,
both now and forever.
The scepter of the wicked will not remain
over the land allotted to the righteous,
so that the righteous will not apply their hands to injustice.
Do what is good, LORD, to the good,
to those whose hearts are upright.
But as for those who turn aside to crooked ways,
the LORD will banish them with the evildoers.
Peace be with Israel.
My first visit to the Rocky Mountains in summer overwhelmed me. I had seen nothing like them and their majesty gripped me. While hiking with friends in the shadow of their glory we stopped to picnic. The hike leader asked if I would say grace and I agreed. Much to his surprise and the surprise of myself and the two others in our group, I stood and shouted at the top of my lungs, “God You are AWESOME!” The words echoed through the trees and across the valley as this truth was announced. We were all stunned. Truly, I was overcome with the glory of those amazing mountains and the beauty that surrounded them.
My joyful surprise in the Rockies was only outdone by a trip to Ecuador where the mountains, filled with volcanic fire, stretched so high that they pierced the clouds. One trip took us through the outskirts of a massive, active volcano, Tungurahua. We took an alternate road home as the fire breathing giant was spewing burning rock down onto the road as we made our way back from the jungle. On another trip, we drove up and through the largest green mountains I had ever seen and yet still, as we approached Otavalo, we looked into the sky in the distance to see, rising above these huge mountains and even the clouds, the amazing peak of Cayumbe. Words escaped us as we stared in silent awe at the work of our Creator.
Those who keep the Faith and put their trust in the Lord are like these massive, immovable mountains. It is hard for me to fathom. Yet, it is God’s truth. Though our culture crumbles around us, though our churches cower in fear, though our leaders govern with deceit and darkness, those who trust in the Lord will not be moved. These followers are surrounded by the massive presence of the Omnipotent God who spoke all of this into existence and Who patiently waits to remake it with fire. Father God surrounds His people as the mountains surround Jerusalem.
He is present.
He is high and holy.
He is able.
As we trust, we pursue God’s justice. As we wait, we travel the straight path, doing good in Jesus’ Name. Father God will deal with the wicked. We must walk in faith and love for Lord Jesus is our King.
