The Reality of the Lord Jesus – 1 John 1.1

That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we looked upon and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life— the life was made manifest, and we have seen it, and testify to it and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was made manifest to us—

John makes it absolutely clear that Jesus was not some apparition that appeared for some time who floated on the earth and didn’t leave footprints. He was not some other world’s ghost who was among us as a phantom spirit. He was not in some body form with which we could not relate. He was seen. He was touched. He was real – a true human. His person was beheld and held. His nature was present and influential. He walked. He talked. He lived. He died. Jesus was as human as any one of us; yet, He was fully God and perfectly fulfilled the Law out of love for and submission to His Father. His love was multifaceted and He became the enfleshment of grace and truth. He lived in the flesh that He might become our life.

The Way.

The Life.

The Truth.

How He loves us.
