Spiritual Deafness – Luke 16.31

And he said, ‘No, father Abraham; but if one goes to them from the dead, they will repent.’ But he said to him, ‘If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead.’

When one begins to deny truth a very dangerous decline begins – one that is exceptionally difficult to turn away from. It is truth that sets us free through the saving knowledge of Who Jesus Christ is. If truth will not be heard or even worse denied and rejected how will one be made free? One cannot be instructed by truth if one denies it. Truly it is the enfleshment of ears that won’t hear, eyes that won’t see and hearts that cannot be made to understand. In light of eternity it is terrifying. Yet, we are shortsighted people. This temporary world seems so real and is filled with distractions and false comforts. Jesus Christ has risen from the dead and it is this truth more than any other that ultimately and eternally frees us.

Deliver us Lord from the disorienting distractions of this life.
