O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing! See, your house is abandoned to you. And I tell you, you will not see Me until the time comes when you say, ‘He who comes in the name of the Lord is the blessed One’!”
What a sad thought and pronouncement. Those whom God set apart from the very beginning have so turned from Him and angered Him that He must forsake them as He promised. It is hard to fathom. It must have broken Jesus’ heart to speak such. The patience of God does eventually come to an end; however, that does not mean that He will not be willing to forgive even those forsaken ones who eventually return to Him. Christ redeems those who return. He will not cast out the one who comes to Him. (John 6:37)
May we never be like these who rejected Jesus. May our eyes never be darkened to our own prideful self-sufficiency. May the Holy Spirit protect us from the terror of self-deception. Our only hope is You, Lord Jesus. We welcome you into our lives and abandon ourselves to You.
