Boasting – 2 Corinthians 10:17-18

So the one who boasts must boast in the Lord. For it is not the one commending himself who is approved, but the one the Lord commends.

Our only real value is found in Christ. God Himself imputed value to us by creating us ‘in His image’ and by ‘re-creating’ us through the blood of Jesus. He has not only created us with inherent value, He has redeemed us and validated our value. Since all things were created ‘through Christ’ (Colossians 1:16), and all who are submitting to Him have been recreated through the sacrifice of Christ, our only value is found in Him. There is truly nothing about which we can rightfully boast in and of ourselves since all we were and all we are is found only in Christ. All things were created through Him and He alone is able to redeem that creation. In Him all things hold together and, by inference, outside of Him all things fall apart. Thus, He has created and re-created and all of the blessing and glory are His. The only true boasting in which true followers of Christ can participate is about Who He is, what He has done and what He is doing.

When we realize just how much our value is tied up in His essence and activity, it frees us to lose our sorry selves and be His valuable people living as He calls for His glory. It is for freedom we have been set free. All of our boasting is in Him.
