I will meet with you there above the mercy seat, between the two cherubim that are over the ark of the testimony; I will speak with you from there about all that I command you regarding the Israelites.
All to which God calls us and in which He instructs us flows out of His mercy. He meets His children at the mercy seat and there He tells us what we need to know to faithfully serve Him in this life and to walk in the way that is best for us. He instigates the relationship because of His great love and makes a meeting place in His mercy. He extends Himself to us because He loves us. Religion can be characterized as man working his way to God. Considering this text, we can clearly see that the God of the Bible seeks relationship not religion. He has extended Himself to us and He meets us in His mercy. He seeks to know us so that He might teach us the things that will keep us for Him.
No other faith system teaches such. No other ‘god’ offers such. His mercies are new every morning.
