Simeon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who have obtained a faith of equal standing with ours by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ:
What a thought….even our faith has been ‘obtained’ by ‘the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ’. We tend to think of faith as something that originates within us; however, this verse, as do others, clearly states that God is involved even in our believing. I’m not sure there is any way our finite minds can fully grasp it. Yes, there has to be a volitional commitment of ourselves to Christ. Yes, we are believers. If we do not stand by faith we cannot stand at all. But how amazing to know that even this standing is undergirded, dare I say implemented, in some supernaturally mysterious way, by Father God and Jesus Christ Himself as manifest into our lives by the Holy Spirit. We have the faith ‘of Jesus Christ’ as Paul alludes to in Galatians. Maybe there is hope for my ragged, apathetic heart as this faith I have obtained is of ‘equal standing’ with the apostles of old.
The mystery is great.
The promise is solid.
The implications are eternal.
Simply Amazing Grace.
