A Word From the Lord – 1 Kings 13:18

And he said to him, “I also am a prophet as you are, and an angel spoke to me by the word of the LORD, saying, ‘Bring him back with you into your house that he may eat bread and drink water.’” But he lied to him.

Here is an example of the clear danger of listening to a man, even an apparently good “preacher” man, instead of God. The original word this younger prophet had received was clear. He knew exactly what he needed to do and say and was in the process of fulfilling it. He simply failed to test the contrary word from a fellow prophet. His discernment escaped him.

There is no angel nor prophet who can supersede the Word of God. As Paul said in Galatians 1:8, “But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed.” When another person tells you they have a word from God for you, be wary. Test this word against the Word as revealed in the Scriptures. When God speaks a clear, unquestionable word it will not be overridden by any other person or being nor will it ever contradict the Written Revelation (the Bible). God doesn’t change His mind on what He calls us to. He is not a God of confusion. His word is final. Obey it to the end with the confidence of Christ.
