Yes and No – Matthew 5:37

But let your word ‘yes’ be ‘yes,’ and your ‘no’ be ‘no.’ Anything more than this is from the evil one.


For the man of integrity there is no need for anything other than our word. Our word is our bond for we are bonded to The Word, Jesus Christ. We need no qualifying phrases attached to our promises. If we commit with our mouth we will follow through with our actions. If we deny with our words then there is no chance that we will arbitrarily change our mind. To simply say yes means we will. To simply say no means we won’t. Those who are submitting to the Lordship of Jesus Christ are those who, as the Psalmist writes, “keep our word to our own hurt.” We need no oaths because we always respond with integrity and truth. We are people of integrity because we know The Truth.
