Psalms 11: 1 – 3
1 In the Lord I take refuge; how can you say to me, “Flee like a bird to the mountains; 2 for look, the wicked bend the bow, they have fitted their arrow to the string, to shoot in the dark at the upright in heart. 3If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?”
I’m not a prophet. I’m not even a professional preacher. I don’t foretell the future nor am I often asked to expound upon the present. Yet, I can still discern that we are witnessing an all out attack upon our foundations – an assault upon them – an attempt to destroy them even from within the church from the educated few. I don’t want to argue or cause a debate so if you don’t agree you should probably just close this article and get back to whatever you were doing before I interrupted you. You will be none the worse. I’m not even going to dive into details. Anyone who has cast themselves upon Christ and lives where we do now has surely witnessed the deterioration and outright attack upon our foundations. David’s words above sound familiar and ring true to our time. What else should we expect from the world? What can we do?
Oh, I have strong opinions about what we SHOULD do as Christians. I’m certain that you do also. I’m also certain that if all of us believers shared our honest opinions on what SHOULD be done there would be a tremendous variety of solutions. Honest, convicted, sincere believers with heartfelt DIFFERING solutions. I’ll spare you mine today. Let’s hunker down on what the word says. We’ll truly take real refuge in what God speaks about times like ours. What would He have us do? (Don’t worry, this isn’t a setup to simply push my own opinion as if they were the word of God. I’m just going to give you the Scripture and a straightforward application.)
Psalms 11: 4 – 7
4 The Lord is in his holy temple; the Lord’s throne is in heaven. His eyes behold, his gaze examines humankind. 5 The Lord tests the righteous and the wicked, and his soul hates the lover of violence. 6 On the wicked he will rain coals of fire and sulfur; a scorching wind shall be the portion of their cup. 7 For the Lord is righteous; he loves righteous deeds; the upright shall behold his face.
God is still in His holy temple. He sees and understands us and our times better than we perceive and understand ourselves and the times in which we find ourselves. He puts challenges before both the righteous AND the unrighteous. He despises the one who LOVES violence. There is harsh judgment for the wicked hearted. There is salvation for those found righteous. By the uprightness of Christ we can be found righteous and see His face
We find our righteousness in Him. Lord Jesus truly is our RIGHTEOUSNESS.
He is the source of your life in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification and redemption…
For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
No longer present your members to sin as instruments of wickedness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and present your members to God as instruments of righteousness.
Go be who he created you to be. Go bring glory to Him. Go live in the righteousness He grants you by faith. Go tell the Good News – that Jesus is the Firm Foundation. He cannot be destroyed.
