Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid; for God has come in order to test you, and in order that the fear of Him may remain with you, so that you may not sin.”
From the very first time God shared His law He stressed the severity and seriousness of sin. Father God brought His awesome nature before them so that they might see just how serious sin really is. God the Creator never took sin lightly. He knew it’s deadly effect. He culminated His perspective on sin with the humiliating, painful death of His own Son once and for all illustrating the grave nature of sin. Sin is serious and thus requires an equally serious resolution. How can we dare take it in so trivially? Our Heavenly Father never, ever did.
The fear of God is our greatest protection from a mindset of sin and the pursuit of sin. How could one see His fire, His terrifying Presence and continue knowingly in sin? Only through base, human arrogance. Protect me from such O God my Father.
