And just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so the Son also gives life to anyone He wants to.
The giving of life as He determines is totally Jesus’ prerogative. He is equal with the Father and has complete authority to grant life to whomever He pleases. His healing of this lame man in John chapter 5 has shown His power and authority to heal even those who do not have a full understanding and may not even realize the power and authority He has. Jesus healed this man even when the man did not request it. He simply did it knowing that He had the power and that it was best for this man. I don’t mean to insinuate that Jesus forces His will onto anyone or that He will magically grant eternal life to any and everyone. No. He still gives us the self-dignity of choosing whether or not to call Him Lord and thus live in His presence forever; however, His power and authority is profound beyond words. He can give life to anyone He wants! He is the definition of the word ‘pro-life’. He not only chooses life, He gives life and claims that He is totally able to completely keep those to whom He has given it.
He is the way, the truth and the life. May He grant us the courage and faith to walk in His way, speak His truth and share His life with all we encounter in this broken world of death.
