He has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began.
The work of salvation is solely God’s. Father God has saved us. He has done the work. He has made the effort. He has given us salvation through Christ Jesus our Lord. This truth is contrary to most everything we normally encounter; yet, critical and necessary since none of us has the willpower, dedication or ability to fulfill what is required of the law. Not only has salvation been granted but the holy calling has also been issued by the purpose and grace of God Himself.
He saves us and He calls us, redeems us and empowers us, delivers us and directs us – all according to what He has planned and what He has done. Why do we worry so much about piddly little stupid religious things when He has accomplished every necessary thing through Jesus Christ our Lord? Why? I guess because we naturally think that everything is about us and through us and for us. We are struggling to save ourselves and purpose ourselves according to our desires for our own ends. This effort leads to failure and death. His effort is eternal success and life for those who receive it. His effort is a Man – the Son of God – our Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ.
