For the person who has entered His rest has rested from his own works, just as God did from His.
The one who has entrusted himself to the finished work of Christ and is submitting to His Life has entered into the Sabbath rest of Father God. It is the work of Christ that brings the rest of salvation. Our works simply exemplify our obedience out of gratitude for the rest into which we have entered. Since Jesus Christ has done the work, even the work of our obedience exists within the Sabbath rest of Father God.
‘What must we do to do the works of God?’ the disciples asked in John 6:28. Lord Jesus replies, ‘This is the work of God: to believe in the One He has sent.’ It truly is our faith that saves us for by it alone do we enter into the saving work of Christ and the rest of God which ensues. In Jesus, faith, obedience, work and rest all converge. To believe is to obey. To work is to rest.
We have entered into the Sabbath rest of God by faith. Gratitude resulting in submissive obedience is our response. Hallelujah!
